Our Steps

Experience

DHARA has been in the field of education since 2006. The organisation has also carried out several socio-development interventions to address various issues and causes prevailing in society, both on a voluntary and project basis. The target groups had been rural communities, women, children, SC, ST, and disaster-hit communities. DHARA has presence in Nainital and Bageshwar districts and has executed an HIV/AIDS programme funded by USACS Dehradun Uttarakhand in District Nainital. SWAP (Water and Sanitation Programme) and NAVACHAR Project, with innovations in bio-mass briquette ograms, orga organic farming, and livelihood support in disaster-affected areas, were executed in Bageshwar District.

In response to the catastrophe of the June 2013 flash floods, DHARA has collaborated with the Gender Issue Cell of ATI Nainital, which is funded by the women and child development department of Uttarakhand, Dehradun, to promote capacity building and livelihood support presently running in district Bageshwar. Under this project, the organization has formed 30 SHGs, comprising 335 members actively engaged in various micro-finance and income-generating activities. Besides, the organisation has mobilised the community to get organised into various farmer, IGA, and user groups for the purpose of carrying out sustainable livelihoods. The organisation has evolved a monitoring mechanism that is successfully being practiced by the community for the sustainability of the programme.

Dhara Societies are working with their own resources and in partnership with the State Government and are executing about 3 projects every year. So far, we have completed 15 long-term projects in partnership with government-renowned foreign agencies since inception.

Our foot prints in social development activities have touched the lives of 18000 families (children, women, youth, and men), 15000 farmers covering nearly about 812 Gram Panchayats, and 926 villages in Bageshwar, Almora, Pithoragarh, Udham Singh Nagar, and Nainital districts in the states of Uttarakhand.

DHARA SOCIETY works in all areas of social development activities and initiatives through our various interventions and thematic areas. DHARA SOCIETY has majorly achieved in community development and rural livelihood in a sustainable manner. We have also equally focused on various other themes like education, health, environment, skill development, water conservation, sanitation, safe drinking water, child protection, and others like capacity building of rural women, formation of SHG groups, health issues of women and children, child protection, and financial inclusion.
